After the consultation, a camera captures the area to be treated. The restoration created on the computer is subsequently milled from a ceramic block. The dental prosthesis is then created as a 3D model on the computer. The finished ceramic restoration is inserted just a little while later. Say goodbye to biting on impression material for several minutes, having a numb mouth and jaw ache. We use a camera that can capture your full dentition in seconds and then transfer this to the computer. No bothersome temporary prosthesis. With CEREC the final prosthesis is inserted directly without any temporary compromises needed. With CEREC you can rely on quality that has been proven thousands of times over in the practice. Furthermore, thanks to your new dental restoration made by our dentists using CEREC, your smile will be just as lovely many years later as it is directly after receiving the prosthesis.

Dental Implants are a replacement option for missing teeth. A dental implant consists of three parts. Firstly, a titanium implant that is placed in the bone, an abutment is then fixed to the implant (generally three months after the implant is placed) and finally crown or other prosthesis can then be fitted.
At a consultation you can discuss with your dentist if dental implants are the best option for you. If you are interested in dental implants your dentist and in some cases a specialist with need to make sure that you are suitable candidate for dental implants.
If you are considering dental implants, we suggest contacting our rooms for more information about the treatment.
Root canal therapy may be required when tooth decay has reached the nerve inside a tooth or if a tooth has cracked and small amounts of bacteria have permeated the nerve. Often a tooth ache may develop as inflammation builds up causing pressure inside the tooth. Root canal therapy removes the infected nerve tissue and an antibiotic dressing is placed inside the tooth which treats both the pain and the infection.
Root canal therapy is a complex and technically demanding procedure, but one which, when performed well, has a very high success rate. It is usually done over 2 to 3 visits depending on the severity of the infection.
At the first visit decay is removed and your dentist will use a series of small instruments to remove the infected nerve tissue in the canals, the root canal(s) are irrigated with solutions and then the canal(s) are dressed with a sedative dressing. At a subsequent visit the canal(s) are cleaned again and then filled with a substance called gutta percha.
The tooth will require a permanent strong restoration such as a crown after root canal treatment to prevent the tooth from splitting and breaking.

A professionally made custom fitted Mouth Guard offers superior protection. These are custom fitted to your teeth. By taking an impression of your teeth, your dentist can ensure that your mouth guard is fitted properly. This results in a more comfortable guard that resists movement and allows easier communication and breathing. The better fit leaves the player with less distractions and allows them to focus more on their game. They are made from a tough thermoplastic material that tastes and smells completely neutral.
In contrast, the over the counter “boil and bite” mouthguards are often poorly fitted, loose and can impede breathing and speech. They can even become life threatening if they dislodge and become wedged in the back of the throat. For these reasons the Australian Dental Association recommends the use of professional custom fitted mouthguards in preference to the Boil and Bite type.
Here at My Dental on Prospect we’re all about protecting your smile, that’s why we thoroughly recommend professional custom made sports mouthguards. Book in now with one of our friendly dentists or Hygienists so we can keep that smile bright!
At Mydental we utilise digital x-ray in all our treatment rooms, we also have the facility for OPG and CBCT
Most of us grind and clench our teeth. For some of us this grinding and clenching can become problematic. Bruxism is excessive clenching or grinding not related to normal chewing.
Bruxism can lead to very worn-down teeth, sensitivity, tooth pain, headaches, jaw pain and cracked teeth.
If you often wake up with headaches or jaw stiffness it may be worth having a consultation with your dentist to see if tooth grinding is a factor. Your dentist will do an examination of your teeth, gums, jaw joint as well as noting your dental and medical history and discuss any other factors in your life that may be contributing to your discomfort such as stress or physical illness.
For some people a nightguard might be suggested. It is made from a hard-thermo-acrylic, they fit snugly over your teeth and can be made to fit the top teeth or the bottom teeth. We use a specialized camera to scan the teeth and bite to create a digital model this allows us to see the areas that are taking the most force so a custom-made guard can be constructed.
Most of us clean our teeth every day, hopefully twice a day this helps to remove plaque built up on our teeth. Some of us even floss regularly. However, we can’t get to the bacteria that sits below the gums or remove plaque when it goes hard. That is why it is important to have regular dental hygiene visits. Having healthy gums is incredibly important. The gums are what support the bone and teeth, if gum disease is left unchecked it can progress to involve the ligaments and the jaw bone which can lead to tooth loss and other health problems.
At Mydental a hygiene appointment includes a thorough check and measure of the gums, removal of plaque on the teeth above and below the gums. Our practitioner will also polish away stain and leave your teeth feeling amazing. If you avoid cleaning because of sensitivity we can offer ORAQIX which is a fantastic product that substantially reduces discomfort…don’t like the noise? We have that covered too with noise cancelling headphones and Netflix!
What is gum disease treatment?
Fissure sealants are a preventative treatment. They are a thin plastic coating applied to the biting surface of teeth to protect against decay and make it easier to keep the teeth clean. Your dentist or therapist may recommend them on the biting surfaces of the back teeth. Fissure sealant are commonly recommended for children and are usually placed after the permanent teeth appear. In adults fissure sealants can help to preserve healthy teeth. The procedure is quick and non-invasive; the teeth are thoroughly cleaned and dried, special gel is applied then washed off and the tooth is dried again this ensures that the seal will stick. The sealant material is then applied and then set with a light. The longevity of fissure seals varies depending on the bite pattern and wear and tear of the teeth, they can be easily replaced or repaired.
Veneers are a bonded facing that sits on the front of a tooth or teeth. At Mydental we offer Porcelain and Composite resin veneers. Veneers can improve the shape, size and color of teeth. They can also be used to fill in gaps or improve the appearance of crooked teeth. At a consultation or examination appointment your dentist can discuss if veneers are a good option for you.
Composite resin veneers are made from a plastic tooth colored material and can be matched to natural or whitened teeth. They are applied directly to the teeth and are shaped and polished. They can provide and excellent aesthetic result without removing any tooth structure and can be removed. They may chip and stain over time, on average last from 3 to 7 years this can vary from person to person.
Porcelain Veneers are a highly aesthetic restoration, they reflect and refract light in a similar way to tooth enamel so they look very natural. They can be matched to any shade. Generally, porcelain veneers do require some removal of tooth structure. Porcelain is a much stronger and longer lasting option. Using CEREC we are able to offer single visit porcelain veneers to our patients.
A crown is a strong restoration that fits over a prepared tooth. At Mydental we offer single visit all porcelain crowns. In some cases, your dentist may suggest a zirconia or gold crown which will require two visits.
A crown may be suggested if a tooth has a large filling in it, has had trauma or has had root canal treatment. Crowns can also be used to improve aesthetics of worn and damaged teeth.
A bridge may be an option to replace one or more missing teeth. The typical bridge comprises one or more artificial teeth, known as pontics, which are held in place by two dental crowns, or abutments.
At Mydental we offer a range of tooth whitening options to suit everyone and every budget.
Tooth whitening is a simple non-invasive option to brighten teeth. Our choices include in chair tooth whitening Pola Office +, this is a great option as the whitening is done at our rooms in a single visit. We also offer take home whitening which can be done in as little as 30 minutes per day. We also sell Pola Light which is a light activated system that you do from home & Pola Luminate which is paint-on whitening system great for maintenance or touch ups.
We find patients love Pola Office + as it is a quick procedure with immediate results it can also be followed up with take home whitening depending on the starting shade of the teeth or an individual’s requirements.
Results vary depending on the starting shade of the teeth and we cannot predict exactly how bright a result will be achieved before the procedure. Fillings, crowns and bridges will not whiten but can be replaced if need be your dentist and hygienist would discuss all the options prior to tooth whitening.
For in office whitening or take-home whitening an examination prior is required, this allows us to identify your starting shade, check for any areas that may cause sensitivity such as recession or decay and look at existing fillings and crowns that may not change colour.
